The majestic Tillamook Head rises 1000 feet from the ocean and is the spectacular backdrop to the resort town of Seaside, one of Oregon’s most visited beach towns just 20 miles south of Astoria. The 1.5 mile Oceanside promenade, known locally as “the Prom” offers panoramic views of the ocean, Tillamook Head and the rainforest. Here you will find the Lewis & Clark Monument, Seaside Aquarium, great oceanfront dining and plenty of benches to sit and enjoy the view. The perfect place to storm watch and people watch with Tillamook Head as the perfect backdrop for a spectacular sunset. “Terribly Tilly”, the haunted Tillamook Rock Lighthouses sits boldly on a rock a mile west of Tillamook Head.
Seaside marks the final destination of Lewis & Clark’s epic journey and many attractions and landmarks can be found here such as the Lewis & Clark Monument, the Salt Works, Seaside Museum and Fort Clatsop. Retrace the route of the explorers on the Tillamook Head Trail.
Arcades & Carousels
Seaside is a family friendly destination with plenty of activities for the entire family. Golfers have an option of a few courses to tee off on, one being nearby Gearhart Golf Links, the oldest course in Oregon. Take a ride on the Seaside Carousel, one of the town’s most colourful attractions. Ride the bumper cars and delight the kids at the Funland Arcade. Downtown Broadway is bustling with shops, arcades, souvenir shops, boutiques and many great cafes and restaurants for every taste and budget. Many of the buildings have murals depicting real life in Seaside. There is always plenty of action in Seaside with great outdoor concerts and live music at many of the local venues.
Sandy toes & ocean views
Seaside has miles of wide open sandy beaches to explore and comb and offers some of the Northwest’s best surfing conditions. Beachcombers find hidden treasure and dig up razor clams. Children are flying kites and whales are breaching in the ocean. Nature lovers can head down to the Necanicum Estuary, 20 acres of unspoiled territory perfect for watching the migrating seabirds, crabbing and fishing. Explore the Necanicum River on canoe to get up close and personal with nature. Ecola State Park has beaches perfect for walking and whale watching with breathtaking ocean views.
