The Heart of the Florida Keys
The Heart of the Florida Keys, Marathon stretches from Long Key to the famous Seven Mile Bridge. Marathon is relaxing, quaint and the starting point of the famous Seven Mile Bridge.
Spend the day on the beautiful Sombrero Beach. A scenic swimming beach with soft sand, beautiful palm trees, great snorkelling and a playground for the kids. Cross the causeway to Key Colony Beach, the “Gem of the Florida Keys” to visit Sunset Park Beach. Take a boat ride to Pigeon Key, an island full of historical buildings and a museum.
The Turtle Hospital is a special experience for both adults and children. They provide tours of the facility with an introduction to many of the turtles in the rehabilitation program waiting to be introduced back into the wild. The Dolphin Research Center in Grassy Key offers a great learning experience for both adults and children and provides opportunity to swim with bottlenose dolphins.
Between Marathon and Key West, you will reach The Lower Keys, an oasis of laid back islands and home to two national wildlife refuges, Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary and Bahia Honda State Park, with one of the top 10 beaches in the US. To the South of Big Pine Key is Looe Key, a coral reef within the Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary, with excellent diving and snorkelling around the reefs and the 210 foot wreck of Adolphus Busch. Looe Key hosts a one of a kind annual underwater music festival.
