Explore the Blue Ridge Mountains

There are many different ways to explore the beauty of Blue Ridge’s many natural attractions, scenic byways, country roads and mountain trails. The Chattahoochee National Forest has many trails. Set out on an exhilarating hike through unspoiled mountain beauty, horseback ride through the forests, discovering nature’s best waterfalls. The Trout Adventure Trail is a fun way to learn about the great outdoors as you explore the legendary forest trails. Nearby Springer Mountain is the start of the 2000 mile Appalachian Trail that runs from Georgia to Maine. The Benton MacKaye trail takes you to the Swinging Bridge as you cross the Toccoa River.

Explore the Toccoa River by foot or canoe. The 17 mile canoe trail passes the Swinging Bridge and leads you to the scenic pristine waters of Lake Blue Ridge, a favorite for fishing enthusiasts and a great stop to rent a pontoon or jet-ski for fun filled water activities. As the Toccoa River leaves the Lake you reach some of Georgia’s best flyfishing waters. The river passes through the town of McCaysville becoming the Ocoee River, where world-class whitewater rafting awaits you. Cross the border into Tennessee to visit the Ocoee Whitewater Center, a natural waterpark with great spots for sliding on the rocks and many mountain bike trails suitable for all levels. Take a scenic drive through the National Forest to the nearby town of Helen.
